However, there are still all kinds of questions swirling as to how the previously undefeated team got beaten so badly. Former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs thinks he has an idea of why the game played out the way it did.In an interview with PFT Live on Wednesday, Jacobs claimed that the team may have been lacking energy and might have been “mentally fatigued” heading into the game.“Honestly, I know it might sound cliché… but, before the game, you could feel it was gonna be a rough one,” Jacobs said, adding that he had that feeling in the locker room. “Not only young players trying to feel the vibe of big games, being able to play so long after a certain amount of time it kind of wears on you, especially when you play great teams week-in and week-out you get everybody’s best shot it kind of wears on you.“I think the team was just mentally fatigued. … For the most part, I think people were just fatigued.”It’s a surprising admission from a Nick Saban-led team.Alabama ran through the regular season with an undefeated record before taking down Georgia in the SEC title game and Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.Alabama went on to lose the national title game, 44-16, and was shut out of the second half. It was one of the largest margins of defeat for Alabama since Nick Saban took over in 2007.Jacobs led the Crimson Tide in rushing touchdowns with 11. He finished the season third in rushing yards (640), third in yards from scrimmage (887), and tied for first in total touchdowns (14).After the season, Jacobs decided to forego his senior year to enter the 2019 NFL Draft.last_img
