Iowa State football had a game canceled earlier this year, and its make-up opponent for next week also had to bow out.The Cyclones were set to host South Dakota State in Week 1, but bad weather led to the game being canceled. In its place, ISU came to an agreement with FCS club Incarnate Word, assuming the Cyclones weren’t in the Big 12 Championship, and UIW wasn’t in the FCS Playoffs. The Cardinals were 1-10 last season, and had blowout losses to FBS clubs New Mexico and North Texas to start its season, so that didn’t seem like a major concern. And yet, UIW finished with six wins in its final eight games, snagging a share of first place in the Southland Conference, and a spot in the playoffs at 6-4.With the Cardinals set to at Montana State on Saturday, Iowa State had to find yet another new opponent for Week 14.Iowa State football managed just that, adding Drake to its schedule just over a week before game time.Iowa State to play host to Drake on Dec. 1. #CyclONEnation? https://t.co/AYK6WiUEUw??? pic.twitter.com/EJWgaQjiIp— Cyclone Football (@CycloneFB) November 20, 2018From ISU’s release on the new game:“We’re most grateful to Drake Athletics Director Brian Hardin, Coach Rick Fox and the Bulldog leadership team for working with us through a very fluid situation,” Pollard said. “Coach (Matt) Campbell wants to play a 12th game and I believe our fans would welcome another chance to see this bowl-bound team play. I know the Bulldogs will enjoy the chance to play at Jack Trice Stadium and compete against a Power 5 opponent.”Drake, which is located in Des Moines, is 7-3 on the season, but did not make the playoffs after finishing tied for second in the Pioneer Football League. The Bulldogs have not faced an FBS opponent this year.[Iowa State]last_img
