Seventh COURTS 10K Road Race to be launched today

first_img… Over $2M investedCOURTS Guyana Inc., in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), will today launch their seventh annual COURTS 10K Road Race.The event which is now a part of the AAG calendar sees some clubs, athletes and gyms participate with COURTS annually in the largest 10K race in Guyana.Defending COURTS 10K champion Cleveland FordeIn total the company is investing in excess of $2M in this year’s race to ensure the success of the event as the company is proud of the growth it has seen throughout the years.The event is open to runners in the Juniors, Seniors and Masters categories for both men and women and COURTS will be handing over $1.5M in cash, prizes and trophies.The race will take place on October 1 and will commence at the COURTS Main Street Store at 06:00hrs and will follow a prescribed route. A 3K event will be held simultaneously for staff members of the company and first- to third-place winners for both male and female staff members will be awarded cash prizes and trophies.“COURTS is proud to be able to continue to host this event every year and make good on its commitment to sports in Guyana”, a release from the company stated yesterday.Cleveland Forde and US-based Euleen Josiah-Tanner are defending male and female champions respectively, having dominated the event for a number of years.Forde clocked 32 minutes 40 seconds (32:40.0) to win last year’s 10K, while rivals Winston Missigher (33:15.1) and Cleveland Thomas (33:26.7) finished second and third respectively.Josiah-Tanner ran 40:12.20 to finish ahead of the now Monroe College student Claudrice McKoy (41:42.9), while Ashanti Scott was third in a time of 41:56.6.last_img
