Photo credit: pictures.comOne man of Petite Coulibrie Estate who called himself a ‘ganga farmer’ will have up to January 31st, 2011, to come up with $611,000.00 to pay the courts or he stands the risk of serving 1 year and 8 months at the Dominica State Prison.Magistrate Ossie Lewis told Russel Vigilante that ganga farmers will be ordered by the court to pay ‘heavy’ fines, after he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and cultivation of 3668 cannabis trees.Vigilante was arrested after police found the drugs on his farm while carrying out bush patrols at Grandbay on July 28th, 2011.He was ordered to pay $100,000.00 forthwith while the other $511,000.00 is expected to be paid by the end of January next year.Magistrate Ossie Lewis indicated that the fine, was in his discretion, the minimum penalty for the controlled drugs, which weighed 611.33 pounds.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
